In 1794 Jean Bombal arrives from Limoges, France, with French wine stocks. In 1820 his grandson, Juan Bombal Valenzuela, buys lands in San Rafael. His son, Domingo Bombal Ugarte, several times governor of the Province of Mendoza, acquires the 10,000 hectares of Los Álamos along with its homestead and its wine cellar.
The arrival of the railroad to Mendoza in 1885 marked a turning point in the production of prime wines. By the end of the 19th century the first underground cellars and concrete vats appear, making use of the new material employed by builders. In order to incorporate these innovations the family winery moves to its current venue.
